Week 2 Post 3

I really liked this week of the course. It's highly applicable to the type of public speaking I do, especially compared to the last week. When I introduce freshmen to Limited Prep 'LP' speaking (the type of speech I compete in) I tell them that it's all about learning how to bullsh*t their way through a bad speech. This week is literally a dude who has a college degree saying the same thing and then teaching how to BS your way through a speech. I especially like that so much time was spent discussing word choice because that's often what I get faulted for at tournaments. It's unfortunate that this entire class is circled around public address/preprepared speeches because much of his advice for word choice was to use outside materials like friends or thesauruses but you aren't allowed to do that in LP.  In fact doing so is cheating. I think it'd be really interesting to see what he has to say about dealing with word economy in the context of an LP speech.
My question for this unit as a whole would mostly be to ask about which hand gestures and facial expressions would be appropriate in which scenarios. While the unit had a lesson about nonverbal communication, very little of it focused on body language which I thought was kind of disappointing, especially seeing as that's another thing I often get criticized for at competitions.

Week 13 Post 1

It occurred to me that I've talked a lot about how to overcome communication anxiety but I haven't really investigated why it happens. This week is an attempt to rectify that problem. Week 4 Post 1

Mind Shift  is a subsidiary of NPR. It is a non profit provider of free education news and information which supports parents and teachers around the world. The first article I'm working off of is from their editorial board and was published on October 3, 2016. Here is the  link to the article . Edutopia is a website published by the George Lucas Educational Foundation. It celebrates and encourages innovation in K-12 schools and focuses on how different learning strategies have different outcomes. The second article I'm working off of was written by Oli de Botton, an English teacher who has worked in educational policy as a 'government education adviser' for the UK and he has held other positions in politics.
